Recycling
Why Recycling is Good for the Environment and Solid Waste Disposal Facility (Landfill)
The City of Alliance Solid Waste Disposal Facility uses a solid waste baler to compact our solid waste before placement in our facility cells. By baling our solid waste before placement instead of using the traditional method of using large compaction equipment, we save space, money, and time in the operation and maintenance of our facility cells. What Is Recycling?
To understand the benefits that the citizens of Alliance receive by recycling you need to understand what recycling is. Recycling is the process of turning one products useful parts into a new product. This is done to conserve on the consumption of resources, energy, and very important to the City space used in its Solid Waste Disposal Facility.
What does Recycling do for the Environment?
Disposal facilities are designed to hold solid waste so that it may degrade and return to its natural state again, becoming a part of the natural environment. When we put recyclables in our facility cells we are essentially defeating the primary purpose of the disposal site. Consider it takes from 100 to 1000 years for plastic bottles to decompose and up to 4000 years for glass to do the same. Yet we can take these same materials and recycle them indefinitely.
What does Recycling do for the landfill?
The less recyclable material deposited in our cells reduces the cost of operations, maintenance, and solid waste disposal fees so that we can maintain reasonable costs to the citizens. It also lengthens the life of our facility which prolongs the expense of providing a new facility for our citizens.
