Nuisance Abatement

What is our Purpose?

The purpose of Nuisance Abatement is to enforce Chapter 20 of the Alliance Municipal Code. Our goal is to abate any unsightly or potentially dangerous property conditions.

What are Nuisances?

Generally, nuisances are:

Nuisance example

  • Grass in excess of 8 inches or grass growing into the sidewalk or road
  • Weeds of the same length or location as above or defined by the State of Nebraska as noxious weeds
  • Litter such as bottles, plastic bags, or paper
  • Trash and junk including appliances, yard machinery, or similar items
  • Abandoned vehicles as defined by the Alliance Municipal Code
  • Property / buildings that are in a state of disrepair or are a danger to the community
  • Snow covered sidewalks

How do I deal with a nuisance property that is not mine?

Many times, simply bringing the nuisance to the attention of your neighbor or owner is enough to resolve the issue. If that doesn't work, please call Nuisance Abatement.  The City discourages people from dealing with nuisances on someone else's property without permission from the owner.

What do I do if I receive a hangtag?

Hangtags are left when the Nuisance Abatement Officer has attempted to make contact with the owner/occupant in person and no one answered the door.  Please call Nuisance Abatement within 5 business days of receiving the hang tag to discuss the details of the nuisance(s) with the Officer.

What do I do if I receive a Nuisance Letter?

The letter will describe the details of the violation and the prescriptive actions necessary to abate the nuisance(s). If the letter is unclear or you have any questions, please call Nuisance Abatement.

How do I contact Nuisance Abatement?
