Water Contamination Prevention

Prevention Suggestions

A single quart of motor oil can pollute up to 250,000 gallons of water. Everyone should take used motor oil and other automobile fluids to a service station that advertises collection for reprocessing.

Backflow Protection

State and local regulations require backflow protection on certain services to prevent water contamination. Backflow can happen when a loss in City pressure occurs and water will flow backwards or siphon back into the City main.

Backflow protection is required on all underground sprinkler systems, heating boilers, and certain heat exchange appliances. City Ordinances require that hose bib vacuum breakers are to be installed on all hose spigots.
