The Alliance Police Department consists of sixteen (16) sworn positions and six (6) civilian personnel. An officer’s initial assignment will be to the Patrol section. They will be assigned to a Field Training Officer. The shift assignments are bid through a seniority system. A trainee will not bid a shift until the first bidding after they have completed training.
Promotions are made through a testing process and interview process. Officers may be eligible for promotion to Lieutenant, Sergeant, or Police Officer II.
The Alliance Police Department does have some specialized areas which are defined by the Police Chief. In addition to service as a patrol officer, the following positions are available:
- Bicycle details
- Drug recognition experts
- Traffic accident investigator
- PPCT instructor
- EVOC instructor
- Taser instructor
- Firearms instructor
The Police Department is also involved in the following program:
- Police / Citizen Advisory Council
The Dispatch section is comprised of a supervisor, and five (5) full-time dispatchers. The Department maintains 24-hour coverage, and personnel are divided into three shifts which are bid on once a year by seniority.
