Story Time is for all children ages 3 to 6 and is offered twice weekly. Programs are theme-related and include reading to children, songs and movement, craft time and social interaction.
- Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. and Thursdays at 1:00 p.m.
- Storytime is not held between Christmas and New Year's
Sessions are held in the back room area of the Alliance Public Library.
Register your child at the front desk of the library. Children may register after their third birthday and may attend until they are six years old or in school all day.
Leading to Reading Program
Leading to Reading is an early literacy program designed to encourage literacy in children ages newborn to 5 years. The program presents parents with developmental milestones and age appropriate book suggestions for children age birth to 5.
Register at the front desk of the Alliance Public Library. Families may register children newborn to one year to receive free postcards. Postcards sets may also be purchased for $10.00 for children over one year of age. Cards will be mailed monthly and will contain age appropriate book suggestions available for check out at the Alliance Public Library. Each Leading to Reading postcard set includes 61 postcards, color coded by year, reflecting a wide variety of authors and genres.
Hot 100 is a list of 100 titles every child should read before they leave 4th grade. This list is compiled by the School Library Journal, National Education Association and librarians across Nebraska. Participants must be preschool through 4th grade.
Register your child at the front desk of the library. They will be given a reading log listing all 100 books. Each time your child reads one of the books, have a librarian stamp his/her log. When all 100 titles have been read, your child will receive a Hot 100 Completion Certificate, have their picture taken for the Hot 100 wall at the library and will receive a bag of 100's such as stickers or candy.
Several themed backpacks are available for checkout. Each backpack contains items such as books, DVD's, costumes, games, toys and an activity folder. Backpacks may be checked out at the front desk of the library.
The Summer Reading program is for children grades 1 through 12 and lasts five weeks during the summer. Sign up dates and complete rules of the program are announced each May. Weekly prizes and grand prizes are awarded to participants who complete the program.
