The Alliance Public Library is proud to offer the citizens of Alliance and the surrounding area the latest in services and materials to fulfill the needs of every age group.  With the support of the Alliance Public Library Board of Directors and an active Friends of the Library organization, the library staff strives to deliver services and materials in a manner to benefit all library users.  You are invited to enjoy this educational center often.



Adult Fiction Books.  New releases are shelved at the front of the library for easy access. Titles
six months or older are placed in the stacks alphabetically.

Adult Classified Books.  Classified books are placed in the stacks using the Dewey Decimal System.  Some are grouped in Special Sections  (see below) for easier access.

Reference Books are located at the front of the library with work area desks and chairs close by.  The answer to any question you have can be found in this fully stocked Reference Section!  Some of our reference materials include dictionaries on a  variety of  topics, a plethora of  encyclopedias, pharmaceutical guides, atlases for the road, the US and the world, SIRS (Social Issues Resources Series), SIRS Enduring Issues, Facts on File, Issues & Controversies on File, Value Line, Current News on File, Nebraska Statutes, Thomas Register of Products & Services, Company Profiles & Catalog File, Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcast Media, and even Chilton repair manuals.  Ask your librarian for assistance if you cannot locate the reference material you need.

Audio Collection offers over 2,500 books on tape, including westerns, classifieds, science fiction, new fiction, and books for youth.

Jigsaw Puzzles -- 10 piece to 2500 piece puzzles, something for every age and ability.

Video Collection of classic, family and educational films.

CD ROM stations with software to access reference information are located in the Technology Room.  

netLibrary offers access to 1,500 reference materials on any computer with Internet access to library card holders who have made application for this free service.

Just for our younger readers:          Juvenile Fiction and Classified Books are located at the back portion of the library.  Fiction and classified categories include:

EF or Easy Fiction: Hard cover fiction books for children just learning to read or who are being read to.

EPB or Easy Paperbacks:  Paperback fiction books for children just learning to read or who are being read to.

EC or Easy Cassettes: Paperback fiction books for children with an accompanying audio tape.

JF or Juvenile Fiction:  Hard cover fiction books for mature readers.

JPB or Juvenile Paperbacks: Paperback fiction books for mature readers.  (Note:  Paperback series are kept in the series section.)

JUV or Juvenile Classified:  Hard cover or fiction classified books for juvenile readers
J92: Hard cover or fiction biographies for juvenile readers

Special Sections:

Large Print Books for the visually impaired.

Nebraska Section - Featuring Nebraska authors and material about Nebraska.

Holiday Section

Career and Education Information (EIC) - Job Information, Resume`s and References

Genealogy Section, housed in the Heritage Room, contains local books by Nebraska authors, rare volumes, Northwest Genealogy Society materials, and general research materials like the Passenger and Immigration Indexes.  

A microfiche reader, a microfilm reader/printer, and county newspapers dating from 1895 on microfilm are available in the Heritage Room.

Travel Packets containing information on each of the 50 states.

WNCC Section contains materials pertaining to classes offered by the college.

Newspapers cannot be checked out, however we offer an attractive reading area at the front of the library for your comfort.  

Computerized search stations allow patrons to access the library materials, find their location, and determine if they are available for checkout.


Loan periods vary by the type of material checked out and can range from two days to four weeks.  Most materials can be renewed in person or by telephone.


The Alliance Public Library has over 100 Periodicals available for your reading enjoyment.
Those subscriptions made possible through the Friends of the Library Adopt-A-Magazine Program are underlined, with the donor's name immediately following in parentheses.
